TECHNIQUE

G P Hall has devised many of the techniques he uses himself, his music is a mixture of Flamenco, Rock and Avant-Garde.
G P Hall draws inspiration from the more usual syles, including Classical, Jazz and Improvisation.
Flamenco patterns played on a 6 string Bass, Industrial Style Electric Blues, Soundscapes, Classical, minimalistic and Industrial Sound Sculptures all form the basis of the rich multi-layered sound, that is unique to G P Hall.

Industrial Sound Sculptures

The phrase 'Industrial Sound Sculptures' is one that Hall coined over 25 years ago, and he is credited with the distinction of spear heading this particular sound.

Many reference books refer to Hall as the Principle Architect and Originator of this incredibly diverse and unique style of music.

Among his sound objects you will find a dictaphone and small radio infact G P Hall will use anything which will vibrate the guitar strings to create the desired effect...
Including a, hand held fan, battery shaver, wind up toy car and psaltry bow.
(see White Wilderness below)...

G P Hall says...
"Sound Sculptures because I use Stereo Sound, created by using 2 x 150watt Carlsbro Keyboards amps, fitted with 300watt Black Widow Speakers in each cabinet and a (Line 6 AX2 212) 250watt Stereo Combo. I work with 3 different sets of didital delays.
I create the volume required and layer the sound with 2 x foot volume controls, mixing the sounds I make, using the implements seen in my video (below), in real time, layering the sounds, one on top of the other. I listen to the sound I have created / layered with firstly one digital spread, then layering another sound on top of the sound already made.
The sound is huge, widescreen and dramatic.
It would be like mixing 2 record decks together, mixed with Industrial noise, except I also have to create the music and sounds instantly, and mix it at the same time.
It's an organic, living on the edge, gut wrenching, emotional mix that can leave the audience changed forever."

                          G P Hall & His Sound Objects

G P Hall explains...

My Sound Sculptures are " Industrial because I use household objects such as..."

Battery Shaver      To create the sound of B52 bombers taking off, in stereo.
Crocodile Clips      To create the sound of shimmering waves & frogs on a pond.
Velcro                  To create the sound of lions roaring in digital panning spreads,
left & right of the stage.
Battery Fan           To create the sound of thousands of locusts landing on your face.
Palette Knife         To create the sound of trains crashing, head on in a tunnel.
Metal Spatula        To create the sound of a singing, spiral tuned sawmill choir.
Rubber Tube         To create the sound of phased spinning air & whistles.

In the superb video below, you will see G P Hall using a Psaltry Bow on his guitar, to create a raw and beautiful sound.
